I want to go on a winter sports trip with a Greenwheels car. What should I keep in mind?

In many countries, winter tyres are required in winter conditions. So when the road is fully or partly covered with snow, slush or ice, winter tyres are mandatory. Greenwheels cars are equipped with all-season tyres, which allow you to drive in snow and icy conditions. Read more about driving in the snow.

Snow chains

In many winter sports areas, there are zones where snow chains are mandatory. You can recognise these zones by specific road signs. We therefore recommend bringing suitable snow chains. They provide extra grip on snowy or icy roads. Each type of snow chain has a maximum speed. make sure to follow it when using them. Snow chains are not included as standard in our cars. To buy the right ones, you’ll need the tyre size of the car, which you can find on our car page. It’s a good idea to practise putting on the snow chains before starting your trip.

Environmental sticker or toll vignette

In winter sports countries like France, Italy and Switzerland, you may need an environmental sticker or toll vignette for certain areas. Apply for these well in advance so you’re prepared before you hit the road. Check the rules per country via ANWB Landeninformatie.

Fuel or charging abroad

The Greenwheels fuel card does not work outside the Netherlands. You can claim fuel costs with us afterwards. Planning to go on a winter sports trip with an electric car? Bring your own charging card. Also keep in mind that the range is lower in cold weather conditions. Read more about going on holiday with an electric car.
